Book Club
I finally tracked down a book I have wanted for a very long time - it is about a dollshouse city from the turn of the eighteenth century, created by a German princess as a hobby. The town is housed in a museum in Arnstadt, and although their website (and book) are only in German, the images speak for themselves...
A Visit
The Bedroom
The Kitchen
The Music Room
A Street Scene
The period detail is atonishing, and is an important indicator of what daily life was like at that time. I hope one day to go to the museum and see it for real!
PS - I do not own the copyright for these images.
Wonderful! That looks like a great book. I would love to visit the museum one day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful book. It's great to be able to learn about the history of our great hobby.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the book, and thank you for sharing those great pictures.

Thanks guys - I'll just have to start learning German! Have a look at the website if you can - I'm not a doll person, but somehow they give added vibrancy to the scenes. Apparently the princess spent A LOT of money on her hobby, so I feel reassured that this past time has been going on for a few centuries!
ReplyDeleteI have heard of that city! Many years ago I had a book about Dollhouses that included a couple of photos... but they were in B&W and were quite small! What a Treasure you have found!
