A sense of accomplishment?

Just a quick round up of things I've fiddled with recently, purely to give myself the idea that I HAVE actually progressed!  The kitchen bay window is now finished, and filled with salmon pink geraniums, which of course are a direct reference to one of my all time favourite books, The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge.  Though a children's book, her descriptions of Moonacre Manor are just so vivid, that they are a delight for any miniaturist to read...

The exterior has had a few additions, in fact, Daviot House has grown by about a third (much to my family's horror!), and I have decided to concentrate on finishing the outside for the moment.

A new rose bush and escutcheon...

A new door bell and window gable for the porch (yet to have the watercolour paint treatment)...

A new lamp that I 'made' by jazzing up a cheap lamp with glass paints and silk tassels....

And a new coat of paint for the bookshelves in the parlour - this time I think I have found the perfect colour of blue, finally!  This is about my 5th try to get the colour right.

I am posting these little things, because I have just increased daviot House's size, which means at least another 6 years of fun!

The newest 'wing' in various states of progress (and for the moment totally roofless) so much potential (so much work!).  Sometimes I feel that this house has a life of its own!

  3. There is no doubt we start with MDF and end up creating a 'living' entity. I love your work and the beautiful house - keep expanding.

  5. Hello jonquil,
The new wing is terrific. It really is beautifully proportioned with the rest of the house and if it means 6 more years of your wonderful work, then I am a happy man. The flowers are lovely and I adore the shade of blue you chose for the bookcase. Everything you made is just terrific.
    Big hug,

  7. I had no idea Deviot House was so big. I think it's the first time I've seen it in it's entirety - it's wonderful. The kitchen bay is a lovely addition and I'm pleased you've finally settled on a shade of blue you're happy with for the Parlour. I think I'm going to have to go back to the beginning with this and take it all in now that I know how large a project it is!

  9. What a Great Addition to Daviot House! It looks like it has always been this way which means it's Perfect! That will of course allow you plenty of room for the staircase without impinging on the kitchen. Every thing looks so right and I love the roses in the garden as well as the geraniums in the kitchen window. I have just finished reading The White Witch also by Elizabeth Goudge but I never knew that she had also written a children's book?. This is something to now be on the lookout for, in my future thrift store visits! :D

  10. Hi Jonquil! I am LOVE your new bay window in the kitchen especially as it has The Look, that it has Always been that way and the salmon pink geraniums are PERFECT too! :D
Also like the roof line of the new additions. They tie in so well with the rest of the structure. You remind me so much of Betsy (Daydreamer) and her passion for new additions. Daviot house is fast becoming Daviot Manor and I adore every square inch! :D

  11. Thank you for your unexpected reference to the Elizabeth Goudge book... it's one of my favourites too. I rather think I'm going to pluck it from my shelves and start rereading it!

  12. Just like in real life these houses grow and become more interesting over time. They have a story to tell, just like yours. Love the new addition, the bay window and all the little touches you have put in.
