A Bunch Of Flowers

Thank you so much for all your supportive comments on my last post - they really raised my spirits, and also inspired me.  Josje suggested flowers, and so I attempted my very first bunch, red parrot tulips.  Not quite as spectacular as Ilona's fabulous flowers, but the best I could do using all I had to hand; florist's wire, watercolour paper, water colour paints and a mini snowflake punch.

They look quite at home on the mantle piece, and really do enhance the paintings on the chimney brest...

And I do like them on the parlour table too.

I've started the chippendale sofa, made from an Xacto kit, but it still needs quite a lot of work.  The rug is only a paper print out, as I will sew one soon, but I wanted a visual guide for the proportions and the colour. I think a little more faded would be best, more threadbare!

And I could definitely do with more blue and white china... the shelves look very empty!

  1. Hello Jonquil,
The flowers look lovely. in the picture they look perfect, and I just love the table. I agree an aged carpet would really add to the story of the room. It's just ebautiful.
    Big hug,

  2. Hello Jonquil,

Your parlour is looking lovely, the furniture looks just right for the room. I really like the table, and the sofa is very elegant too. The rug looks quite real in the photo, will you use that as a guide to copy for the one you stitch? That will be quite a project!

Your flowers are very pretty, they do look good on the table.

    regards
    Andy xx

    1. If only the paper copy looked as good in real life as in the photo- then I wouldn't have to take on ANOTHER stitching project (but I so xant to do it!)... I'll probably simplify the design as this one is realy detailed, but I will use it as a guide.

So I'll finish sometime in the next decase or so!

  3. Hello Jonquil! Those parrot tulips look great, I love to see them on the mantle piece. We have the vase in common ;)! Your rug looks great, I think you're right about its color: a little bit more faded would be better.
Thanks for mentioning my blog, please feel free to email me about my flowers.
    Hugs, Ilona

  5. These are perfect for the job with just the right amount of "droop"!

I'd never have guessed it was your first attempt.

  6. Hey Jonquil, I only just read this piece on the flowers you made. They're lovely! I really like parrot tulips as well. They were the first flowers I ever made myself.

The tulips give that splash of colour you wanted in the room, to coordinate with the red in the painting. However, I think the vase, lovely as it is, is too high and straight in this scene. I think it needs a rounder, shorter vase to compliment the shapes of the furniture and paintings and to be more in proportion with the flowers.
