Fireplace Update

UPDATED!

It's not often I find myself standing in my kitchen burning dowling over the sink and then dusting it with talcum powder, but it is an effective way to make logs for the andirons in the parlour fireplace!

I also added a fire crane, and I'm on the look out for a nice copper kettle to hang from it.

I think I'll metalcote the crane and the andirons to give them a forged iron feel.

***** update on the update!***

Here are the andirons painted with humbrol metalcote in gunmetal - I think they look a lot better!

  1. This is looking very good, very real the burnt woodlogs!! I think a metal cote for the crane and the andirons will be very nice.

  2. What a great idea, will try that myself! The andirons look good, did you make the chimney crane yourself?

  4. Hello everyone,

thanks for your comments - as always, they are greatly appreciated!

Andy - sadly, I didn't make the crane myself, it is actually the hanging arm for a shop sign that I found among my bits and bobs. It's perfect for a fire crane!
